Hey Carolyne:
Glad to see you're still a prisoner of rock and roll!
I went to Pandora yesterday and made a radio station entitled "Chicks with balls" and you're there!!!

WE NEED YOU TO PLAY HERE IN NEW JERSEY!!!! Saw Wille Nile last weekend at Drew Eckman's place in Ringwood...thought it would be a great place for you and when I mentioned it to Drew he told me I was the fourth person who asked about you that night!

Come on, sistah...WE NEED YOU!

I interviewed Carolyn awhile back but it didn't go too well, although she was so very generous with her time and sharing things about her career.
Just the other day I put on three of the CDs the Mercury years and then the Long Isalnad Potao thing and I was blown away once more.
Carolyn you made a sound so pure, so true taht it simply gets better with time.
I'm sorry for all the pain you endured, but so incredibly grateful for the music you have given us.
Peace, Happiness and tranquillity you deserve them all.

In the early80's we had as teenies our first band! Deep Purple, ACDC, Rush and others were our favourites. I remember that evening I#m coming to the Band with Mas Hysteria. It was great. Nobody of us plays anything, we heard teh whole album this evening. The next day we tried to play sittin' in the dark...
Not very succesful, but today, if "the old one's make a session... every time wlir 92.7, the radio station of long island....comes on...
Best regards, Christian

Hi Carolyne!
Many years ago I had a new music radio show on a station in London, Ontario. I was totally in love with your album and you came in for an interview. My show was an hour long and usually I covered a bunch of artists and songs in one show. However, I did one hour just with our interview and your music. I believe you were doing promo for a concert where you were opening for Robert Palmer. I still have the concert poster (which was awesome) but the show cancelled - so I never saw you live. Still love mentioning you when conversations start up about pet favorites - when I find people that also dug you - there is an extra special connection.
So a big hello and thank you after all these years!

Please let me know where I can purchase the cd containing quote goodbye quote, still sane, sadie says, snow etc. This was my favorite album in college after you performed at Fordham University. I have looked everywhere but have had no luck tracking it down. Thanks so much for you time.

About finding lyrices...yeah it's probably better to Google, there is no one major database (and they come and go). And often the lyrics might be found at the artist's site instead.

But when Googling, it's best to put the title in quotes like:

"baby got back" lyrics

Although sometimes they just aren't out there:

snow "carolyne mas" lyrics

:-(

Carolyne

April 15, 2007

I usually have great luck just Googling the song title, and maybe the artist, and I've been able to find some pretty obscure stuff. I don't know the names of any of the databases, I suspect there are a few, because just performing a search per song as needed really did the trick.

I have a lot of fondness for Hazleton and its people, and I was very shocked when I heard it mentioned on the news some months back that they were adopting some sort of extreme policy concerning immigrants. This was odd to me because I remember Hazleton as being a relatively poor town full of Polish and Italian immigrants. The Bush regime has succeeded in drumming up hatred in even the most loving of our communities, and this is just one of the good reasons why I still remain politically active, although I wish that some of that would be directed in a more musical way. I was involed back then (Fall 1974-Summer 1975) with a lot of good people in the area...artists, musicians, writers, poets, and even clergy...who were very politically vocal, and it was very creative and exciting. I am still in touch with some of them, and I miss the kinds of events we used to throw together effortlessly as if by magic. It was a very educational experience for me.

Me the one time 13yo year old, with notebook in hand who was fortunate enough to have many conversations with you on Wyoming Street. The years had to be between 73-76. I am not quite sure as the 40's are winding down and the years seem to blur. ( I am still not quite sure what happened to the 90's.)
Coffee in the "Space". Bad jokes in the music store.Your positive spirit was infectious and fond memories remain from a community that never really did embrace (or does) embrace the arts, culture, even diversity(Google...Hazleton "News"). Please know you left your influence here at the begining of what turned out to be your own life's journey.
Are you still politcally active?
Happy Spring. Be Well

Hey there, Tookie!!! What a blast that wedding was. I was always embarrassed that I couldn't buy a present, I couldn't afford one. I remember talking to you about getting them a bottle of Dom and 2 silver candlesticks, you thought that'd make a nice gift, and I agreed but kept my mouth shut about how broke I was. It was humiliating. "Modern Dreams" had just come out, but somehow my manager had screwed things up so badly, that I was literally penniless with an album in the new release rack. I may have even hitch-hiked to the wedding.

By the time I could afford a gift, they were divorced!

I really miss Ricky, and I wish he would give me a call sometime. What a fine guitar player he is! Actually, I have always liked your whole family. My best to everyone, okay?

Yeh, I was a little frustrated with Elton John back then. I had seen him perform at Carnegie Hall in April of 1971, before he hit his period of excess. He was simply-dressed back then, and I thought that he betrayed himself somewhat later on by the ridiculous ways that he began to appear on stage. It was distracting and detracting from the music and his credebility as an artist, I thought. It was as if he had become this huge sad clown who was suddenly everywhere. I lked him better as a relatively unknown artist. I thought that he was ridiculing himself.

I always loved his music, and his piano-playing had a profound effect on me then and now. After my Dad died in 2002, I was surprised and happy to see one of Elton's CDs in his collection. I had tried to get him and my Aunt (a great pianist herself) to listen to him back in 1971, because they liked Jose Feliciano, and at the time I thought that he sounded vocally a lot like him.

The summer of '76 was a very pivotal time for me. What else do you remember from back then? My parents had a really cool house, and I had lots of musicians over when I was young. They even let a drummer set up in the den one time, and my high school boyfriend's band used the basement as a rehearsal space for a really long time. My Dad, who had designed a speaker for Leslie Speakers, had a Hammond organ wired so the the sound would pan around the room with the speakers he had made for them. We also had speakers out by the pool that he had built into the patio wall, and I recall blasting "Tumbleweed Connection" out there while swimming. Good times indeed!

Hello Carolyn,Back in 1976 you had a dartboard in your home that had Elton John's NY Times ad for his Louder Than The Concord Tour at Madison Square Garden that summer. Last week at his 60th birthday concert at MSG I thought of you. It was the second time seeing him,the first being the summer of '76. And as always if you need a drummer. NYC still loves you.

I played in London at "The Venue" sometime in the winter of 1979. I always thought that I should've gone back. They have a great love of blues and R&B in the UK.

There are lots of places that I sould've gone to, or gone back to back then, like Italy and Australia, just to name two, but both the record company and my manager were short-sighted, and only thought about having a hit record in the US.

My one TV show in Germany, plus the live record "Mas Hysteria," really saved my life, musically speaking. With so little effort and expense on their part, I achieved so much in the long run. Just think of what might have been had they really put some energy into seriously looking beyond the US...I don't think that anyone ever thought of music in terms of me being able to make a living in the long run. That's the problem with the music business. It's all for them and what quick bucks they can make until the next thing comes along, and so little is done to secure a livelihood for the artist in terms of their future.

Hey Carolyne,
I just listened to your first LP last night and it's so funny.......hadn't heard it in a while and knew all the lyrics and I just wanted to say thank you to you for existing. You are awesome and I've never seen you live but keep hoping you might do a gig in Toronto one day or see you in New York if I can make it down there for a show. Anyways, I'm off to purchase your new cd.
Lots of love, Chrissy

Hi Carolyne,
i'm looking forward to Nov 2nd! First I couldn't believe that you really will give a show in Germany - it's just great! Did your italian friends capture the shows from last year on vid, so we can get some pre-impression of your present performance? Just upload 2 or 3 songs to youtube.

"It's the red guitar from German photos"
I see it, sweeet. Looks like the neck p/u is also a HB. The lead p/u might be too hot for my taste (on a tele anyway).

"I just got a Variax 700"
Now that's very interesting. You should have a lot of fun with that. Carolyne on the cuttig edge :-o

"I pawned it for peanuts"
I only regret selling one guitar: A NATURAL FINSH MUSTANG (original), maple fingerboard, with newly replaced switches, and I had put in white DiMarzio stacks. It looked, played and sounded amazing; but, like you, things were bad at the time, so ...

"That was enough Tele trauma to last a lifetime"
Maybe it's time to try an SG ;-)

thomas,
thanx for the info thomas. i went to that link and that explains it. sure are a lot of good shows listed there. it does look like the rockpalast people are trying. i hope carolyne's show rights aren't owned by some "suit" that doesn't care if people see that great concert. i guess there is hope though because some "pre-81" shows have been released. the rory gallagher shows for example. man, that dude was an awesome performer. thanx again thomas.....

I've got a Hot-rodded Bill Lawrence Tele, which sounds a bit like that, with a really ballsy humbucker. It's the red guitar from German photos, and on the "Live" CD.

I just got a Variax 700, and recently a Les Paul Jr. type guitar, made by Bolin Guitars, which has a custom Seymour Duncan P90 pickup made especially by Seymour Duncan for John Bolin. It'a a pickup that's in some of the guitars he built for ZZ Top.

I bought the guitar from a guy on Ebay, who had taken out this pickup to put in a different one (?????), and he damaged the pickup and the pickup cavity by doing this swap, but I bought it anyway. I talked to John, and I will be sending it back to him (in Utah, I think) when it's warmer to have him work on it. It's an amazingly gorgeous guitar, and I think he is happy to see it in the arms of someone who truly cares.

I have 5 Daisy Rock guitars, which are quite good. They are very light and small, but have great attitude.

My heart was broken when my '54 Tele was stolen in '86. The next Tele I had was in 1998, a custom one made in California. When I came on some hard times in the beginning of 2002, I pawned it for peanuts, and then missed a payment while I was in Florida when my father died, but they didn't care...I lost it in a NY minute. That was enough Tele trauma to last a lifetime, so to move on to something new didn't seem like a bad idea. I am still reeling from the loss of those 2 guitars to this day.

"I no longer play a Tele becuase the tone doesn't really excite me any more"

Sometime you can try mine. I installed DiMarzio humbuckers and clipped out the treble cap (haven't replaced the pots yet ... I might not). So it feels like a tele but with more punch and less noise (yay).

Thomas

March 15, 2007

Anthony,
as you can see on http://www.rockpalastarchiv.de/video_e.html the WDR (broadcaster of Rockpalast) has no rights of the shows of the first 10 years, till 81. Beginning with the concert of the Who and Grateful Dead (March '81), with some exeptions, they have the possibility to release DVDs or rebroadcast. Unfortunately Carolyn's Show was in January '81.
I wonder who's got the rights on this vid. As Carolyne didn't even made money out of the famous promo-LP for this show, Mas-Hysteria, I don't expect her to posess the rights on the vid of the show on her own. But maybe she gives us a hint.

I love the vids!

March 14, 2007

I found it at Matt Uminov's in NYC. It was in the window, at around the sametime that Ricky started playing with me and he had a black left-handed Les Paul. I have always loved the Les Paul sound, but I hated the neck. When I saw this guitar, it was a dream come true. Ricky and I looked great together on stage, and sometimes we crossed necks when we played.

Unfortunately, I traded it in 1986. I no longer play a Tele becuase the tone doesn't really excite me any more, so I wish I had it back.

The vids are incredible Carolyne, thanks for posting them! I've always wondered, what's the story with that guitar (the tele-paul)?

You know, I will try and contact someone about that when I go over there in November. That'd sure be swell to see it released in high-quality DVD.

March 12, 2007

hey carolyne,
adding the videos to the sight is very cool. maybe this will show some of the younger folks who visit here how good those live shows were. that rockpalast show kicks some major ass. i bet i've watched that 10 times or more. ( on the 9 foot projection screen, wow!!!). maybe some of your fans across the pond in germany know some of the rockpalast people and can finally get an official release of that show on dvd. thanx to the fan for the "bathurst" clip. got any more?? i'll check out the my space page, maybe get on your friends list..he he.. anyway, take care carolyne and keep rockin girl..

Hi!
Finally got a friend to convert my - in those days extremly rare - LP into MP3 format of Mas Hysteria. The 1990s version was not bad, and is also part of my collection, but Mas Hysteria was a Magnum Opus!
Glad you're still making music. Also a COOL website, with lyrics of my favorite song, infos and such.

Keep up the good stuff, Andy!

Hi! I keep watching your site from time to time since I bought this wonderful box set from Brad. As I wrote him, I'm a real fan since 1981 and was so glad to get the older records (wich I ownded in vinyl) after so many years.

Visiting this site today made my heart beat faster (no joke) YOU'RE GONNA COME TO GERMANY IN NOVEMBER? I hope this means that you're gonna play a gig over here. Please do not dissappoint me :-)

All the best, Chris

Hi! Great to know you are still around and singing. I bought the cassettes back in the day, and I had just about given up hope of finding lps to copy over to cd. Thanks for the mp3s of the old tunes. They still sound great and bring back lots of memories. I'm listening to the download of 'Imagine' as I write this. You've still got THE voice, woman. Keep on rocking!--Tim

I first heard your music while living in Zurich, Switzerland, which was ironic since I grew up at the Jersey Shore. Then when I returned, I saw you as the opening act for Southside and the Jukes. Carolyne,
I was walking down the hall and Quote Goodbye Quote jumped into my head. So I did what every American would do. I googled you.

I booked you to play our university (U. Wisconsin-Whitewater) in 1979 or 1980 or something. Your agent told me you rocked. Your agent was right. Was that Mike Flanagan?
A few months later a bunch of us drove to Madison to see you at Headliners. I scanned your bio. What a life.

Patrick

January 28, 2007

My brother had given me your music in spring of 80. Then I saw your show at Campbell University 1980 in Buies Creek NC. We were ready for you and sang every song. Shit you rocked!

Carolyne Mas
Thanks for the music and memories.

Chip

January 25, 2007

Carolyne,

I hope you don't mnd my two cents about this Caryn thing...

Your initial indignant reaction is perfectly justified and understandable. It's not just a case of misunderstanding when she's apparently been doing this for years. Then in her message here she still seems to be lying, even while making what seems to be an apology. The problem is it's like the case of a kid whose sorry not for what they did but for getting caught. She also then appears to be trying to leverage it all into using you as a music business contact.

But the fact that you then show some compassion towards her shows that you're pretty good hearted. Kudos.

My one caveat is that if she tries to initiate more personal contact, use extreme caution. There are some very odd people out there; and considering what Caryn's done already, I'd say she may be a bit "unpredictable". Don't let her take advantage of your good nature.

Carolyne

January 24, 2007

I feel bad for being so hard on Caryn. It's hard to tell if she is a really a con artist, or just a deeply disturbed person. I mean, to do, say, or write the things she has written she has to be troubled in some way.

I am a little calmer now as I am witing this, much less angry than I was before. I was very put off by what she wrote, and it was very easy to react with such intensity, but now I feel so very sad. I feel really sorry for her.

Caryn, if you read this, please get some help. There are all kinds of places where people can go to get some spiritual healing of some sort. You live in a very big city.

Carolyne

January 24, 2007

According to the DuPage Illinois State's Attorney's Web site, you were born on 3/28/61. They should know, because you were convicted there on four counts of Financial Exploitation of an Elderly Person and four counts of Financial Exploitation of a Person with a Disability. Even if you were unhappy with your adoptive situation, this is certainly no excuse to run off with dear ol' Dad's money and leave him in a nursing home for which you did not pay the bills. It is unthinkable that anyone would have to DIE this way.

There is no misunderstanding when you pass yourself off as me. You did it at "Ultra" beauty salon in Atlanta, and even showed them pictures of your (MY) trip to Italy. You told them that Carolyne Mas was your stage name, and that they would be amazed at what they would find on your (MY) Web site. These are not mere misunderstandings, as you would have me, and everyone else who reads this Guestbook, believe. This is FRAUD, pure and simple. It is theft, not of anyone's money or posessions, but of one's good name, which is a commodity whose price is in my estimate way higher than anything that money can buy.

I have earned my accomplishments with my own blood, sweat, and tears, and the thought of someone like yourself swaggering around and pretending that they are yours disgusts me to no end.

We have all had misfortunes and heavy baggage that life has given us along the way. The wise ones have chosen not to use it as an excuse for immoral behavior. The abused need not become the abuser. You need to learn this.

For the crimes that you commited you served very little time. Perhaps if you had spent more time in a jail cell, you would have been forced to think about the meaning of life, your life, and found some way of becoming a constuctive member of society. Bad situations can make someone a better person sometimes. It is a shame that this did not happen to you.

As a former victim of violent crimes, I feel no less violated by what you have done than I did years ago when I was raped. To steal someone's identity is a very intimate form of assault. It makes you feel unsafe, violated, vulnerable, and angry, very angry. The casual way in which you appologize for what you don't even admit to doing, does not cut it with me. PERIOD.

Since your first message board post in 1999 up until now, who knows how many times all together you have tried to pass yourself off as me. Who knows? I am sure that the answer is many times, and only this one time you were caught. I am glad it is over. I hope that it is over...for your sake AND for mine.

Like I once posted a couple of years back in reaction to reading a post where you said you were me...Please get a life...YOUR OWN!!!

First and formost, I want to sincerely apologize from my heart for any harm or negativity I have caused you. I am trully am accomplished vocalist like yourself, I have had the highest respect and appreciation for your music and your style. You will not have to worry about any reputation damage of any kind. I only respect you highly for your family who supported your goals and direction, for I being adopted and brought here from Scotland in the 50's to a family that abused and did not recognized my talents and I had to do it alone. I am accomplished in dance, Piano, vocals, etc. I am trully, trully, trully sorry for any discomforts of anykind. You are a gracious and a well deserved performer who deserves all the accolaides you have earned. Being different in this country has been extremely difficult, although I have been fortunate to have had been with sincere and caring people. I promise you, many people have come up to me at many times and asked me if I were you, I did not believe them at first, this was back in 1999. They showed me pictures of you and they were convinced that I was you and unfortunately that is how this ugly siutation began, I did not know how to stop this myself. I like yourself take privacy very seriously and honor and respect and fairness seriously as well. Please I hope you will accept my deepest apologies and deepest respect and insight for you. There are many people who assume things and sometimes take things out of pretense or perspective and misunderstand what you say to them. I read some of the statements on the website you have furnished. Some of those people sounded appalling and very misled on what they read or heard. I take this time to formally and rightfully again apologize for any and all words and statements supposedly said by me regarding you. I am woman to admit that some deep misunderstandings have occured, I mean you no harm at all, I wish you nothing but greatness and a happy future with your family. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me for any and all misunderstandings pertaining to you. I trully wish we could sing together, I am trully accomplished in 1st and 2nd Soprano and would love to trully do great things musically, I would not blame you if you were very hesitant. Thank you dearly for listening and hopefully letting me introduce the real me to you in honesty. I am from Glasgow, Scotland, born 03-28-45. Adopted and brought here to the states in the early 50's. Started playing piano and stage dance at 4 to 5 years, and my singing voice developed on its own to full operatta status by the time I was 11 or 12. Again my deepest apologies and highest respect from my heart to you. Caryn MacFadyen

The old stuff is out there on Ebay, and available through collectors. I just got an old autographed copy of my first LP on Ebay.

CD Baby may still have copies of "Brand New World." Other stuff from the late 80's and early 90's is also out there and available for sale online. Do a Google search, and I am sure that you will find what you are looking for.

Ahhh, Fordham U...those were truly the days, my friend!

I saw you play at Fordham Univ. in the late 70's. YOur song "still sane" got me through some difficult time in dental school. Where can I purchase your older cd with those great songs like quote goodbye quote, sadie says and snow. I'm new to the internet and found your web site by accident. I would like to find a store which sells your music. Can you give me any suggestions. Thanks for your time and I hope you are still performing thoses great old songs.

Hi Carolyne,

I have just dicovered your site - it's a very very nice one. Thank you for all the information.
I remembered the time workin as a Rock-DJ in the 90's. Your Songs have allways been a part of my program.

I think, because of your guestbookentry from Nov, 3rd, just start writing: pick any day and write a story, jump forward an back in time, make a timelist on a big blank wall (because there is lots you have to tell).
I guess storys will come, past pictures too and memorys are there to be told - or they will be forgotten.
Please start writing.

To you and your family: all the best wishes for 2007, lots of luck and love and stay in good health!

Happy New Year, Carolyne! Wow, haven't been on this site since it first came up. Thanks for the full bio (I always wondered what the heck happened; what a ride). And thanks for giving us some of your music. Now, rather than having to listen to my old scratchy vinyl, I have your first album and some other great songs I never heard on my iPod. I'm glad to see you've been performing lately, and - although I live in Boston - if you play in NYC this year, I'm there. Thanks for making great, great music.

My local record shop, allofmp3, wiki,...here's another place where I miss Carolyne: pandora.com. I think it's a great idea and I wonder what attributes of the Music Genome Project they would use to describe your songs. 'Emotional Female Lead Vocal Performance' would be my favorite. Carolyne, why not sending them a couple of your songs? Project seems to be rather popular. Might be a chance!

Kind regards

Hi Carolyne,
I can't believe I've finally found you. I've had your original LP "Carolyne Mas" for years now and I absolutely love it!!!! You have such an incredibly beautiful voice. I was really surprised that I was unable to find you over the years. I had wanted to purchase this as a CD but was unable to find it anywhere. Finally, today, I was doing a search on the internet and your website popped up. I am so delighted to finally find you and to see that your music continues. I'm really sorry to hear that you've had so many problems getting your music out there. I think your time will come though. I don't think you can hide a secret this good forever....
My absolute favorite songs are: "Snow", "It's no secret" and "Call me". I'm really looking forward to hearing all the rest of your stuff. And now that I know where to find you, I'll be back!!!
Best of luck with "Animal Haus" too. You're in my prayers!
Love ya!!!

Hi Carolyne -- this may not be the world's most earth-shattering issue to debate but I do beg to disagree with you Carolyne regarding your opinion in the Tony Sclafani interview that "Love Like Stone" might be a tad flat in the context of your other work. I consider it an absolute hit. It just needs some airplay (is all.)

Hey Carolyne! What's up? I haven't heard a thing from you on your web-site. hope all is well and
that things are getting better for you and your family. So sorry to hear about Steve. I know that you will miss him.
You are getting closer and closer to good old Albany. I still hope to see you perform before old age creeps in. Until then take care

Two impressions: 1)Hope for future CM releases is reasonable, but take your time; 2) Showbiz looked different from afar. Before I read your bio on this site and your interview on http://www.furious.com/Perfect/carolynemas.html (Worth to be added to the link-list), I would have thought musicbiz would battle for the release of your stuff.

I would buy (and read) your book! So don't forget to mail me when you're done with it.

My old manager left behind a wealth of things when he died; videos of shows from long ago, press clippings, demo tapes, etc. I am just waiting fot the appropriate time to collect these things from his widow, who remains quite devastated to this day

I already have 2 volumes of press clippings from 1978-1981 that I took with me after his funeral. It was like bringing home a coffin filled with the remains of a former life. It's painful to read them, and to look at the young, smiling faces of the many people who worked with me, some of whom have passed away since. I can almost feel their ghosts peering over my shoulder as I flip through the pages.

I would love to write a book, but I wouldn't know where to begin.

Fine you liked it REG. It was my first CM video too.
I wonder if there is more than this. At least the Rockpalast Concert in Gemany (http://www.rockpalastarchiv.de/concert/mas.html) was broadcasted but is yet (afaik) not sold. I wouldn't be suprised if there are other promos or records of concerts. Carolyne, can you help? As it is unsure when we gonna see you live on stage in Europe, a vid of your show could be a compensation!

Hello Carolyne,
(re)discovering you and your music is a great pleasure. What a voice! Makes me shiver. Thank you!

P.S. Who is able to add Carolyne to the english wikipedia? There is an article in de.wikipedia which is quite obvious but nevertheless, as a great american performer/composer Carolyne _should_ have an entry in the english wiki.

For Faris

THE DEAD WOMAN

From "The Captain's Verses," by Pablo Neruda, 1952

If suddenly you do not exist,
if suddenly you are not living,
I shall go on living.

I do not dare,
I do not dare to write it,
if you die.

I shall go on living.

Because where a man has no voice,
there, my voice.

Where blacks are beaten,
I can not be dead.
When my brothers go to jail
I shall go with them.

When victory,
not my victory
but the great victory
arrives,
even though I am mute I must speak:
I shall see it come even though I am blind.

No, forgive me.
If you are not living,
if you, beloved, my love,
if you
have died,
all the leaves will fall on my breast,
it will rain upon my soul night and day,
the snow will burn my heart,
I shall walk with cold and fire and death and snow,
my feet will want to march toward where you sleep,
but
I shall go on living,
because you wanted me to be, above all things,
untamable,
and, love, because you know that I am not just one man
but all men.

hi carolyne -- i liked your extended version of the john lennon song -- here's a poem i thought might appeal to you at this point in time, even though it was written eons ago.

bertolt brecht

when evil-doing comes like falling rain

Like one who brings an important

 letter to the counter after

office hours: the counter is already closed.

Like one who seeks to warn the

 city of an impending flood,

but speaks another language. They do not understand him.

Like a beggar who knocks for the

fifth time at the door where he has four times been given

something: the fifth time he is hungry.

Like one whose blood flows from

 a wound and who awaits

the doctor: his blood goes on flowing.

So do we come forward and report that evil has been done us.

The first time it was reported that our friends were being

butchered there was a cry of horror. Then a hundred

were butched. But when a thousand were butchered

and there was no end to the butchery, a blanket of

 silence spread.

When evil-doing comes like falling rain, no body calls out

 'stop!'

When crimes begin to pile up they become invisible. When

sufferings become unendurable the cries are no longer

heard. The cries, too, fall like rain in summer.

Carolyne, I've emailed you at samlorac@aol.com to see if I can help with the CD situation. If that's not the right address to use, please let me know.

August 7, 2006

Anyone who ordered CDs, please email me for a refund. I no longer have a fan club doing the CD sales for me, and my life is way to hectic to keep track of these things. Sometimes I don't even leave the house for 3 or 4 weeks at a time between the animals and my Aunt, and now my Mother.

When I do get away to play music, it is really a break for me, and a much needed step into civilization.

Sorry that I have no-one to do these things anymore. The CDs have had to take a back seat in my life, and I never meant for my fans to be impacted by this. Brad, who did things for me for many years, left rather suddenly, leaving a big gaping hole behind which I just cannot fill.

I am truly sorry.

Just discovered your site and have been listening again to your music - the memories come flooding back! 'Hold On' is still one of my all time favourite albums and your music is up there with the best. Reading through the Guestbook I can't believe that you would even think that you "didnt become famous" - gee there are a lot of folk from Ireland to Italy, Germany, Canada and all over the US of A that may just disagree!!! I think your folks would be (are!) proud that you still have your integrity - and that's priceless and so rare in this sad world of compromise and sell-out! Keep on rockin on Caroline Mas . . .

I'd love to come to Germany again, but I have no contacts there anymore. My old promoter, who I believe no longer does concerts, had seemd interested in finding a promoter for me to do a few shows, but then I never heard back from him.

Do you know anyone there who could put together a few shows?

Thank you for your kind words. I really like "Call Me," and I am going to re-record it in the next couple of months.

While I was in NYC to play at "The Cornelia Street Cafe" anniversary bash, I re-united onstage with Bernie Shanahan, my first husband and great musician. We played an impromptu version of that song, and it gave me the idea to re-explore its possibilities.

Bernie has a great home studio setup, and I have decided to do an album there, also containing some songs written by long-time friends and great artists such as Bernie, Jack Hardy, Elliot Simon, and Rod MacDonald. Robin Hirsch, who owns and started "The Cornelia Street Cafe," has written songs, too, a couple that I used to perform in the day. I will also record one of these gems.

When you make your own records, you can do what you want to, and it is truly a joy for me to be able to perform the songs of these wonderful artists, and to be able to finally pay tribute to them after all these years. No label ever let me have this freedom before.

Wow. Can't believe I found this site. Your music kept me alive for several years in the early 80's - seriously! Call Me Crazy, Thomas Dunson's Revenge, and that unbelievable version of Under One Banner you did, were some of the best songs I ever heard by anyone. I had to buy new copies of your first three albums because I wore the vinyl down so badly. Wish I could find them now on CD!

Rock on! I'm so pleased you're still playing and still producing great music. One of these days I'll make it to the other side of the world and finally see you play.

I am so excited that I found this site and can get Carolyne's music! I have searched on the free music sites for ages....and even went into HMV music store to buy a DVD and they searched their computer and could find Carolyne Mas. I had an album when I was in my early 20's and no longer have a turntable and was really missing the songs! Especially "Sadie Says"!!

I already moved, it is all behind me now. The county gave me 30 days, and I was out in 30 days. Caravans of vehicles moved everyone, along with my Aunt and her hospital bed in tow. My husband, our son, and I, slept on the floor that night.

Not one TV station, newspaper, or rescue offered help out of the thousands of letters I wrote. Some fringe groups called, but never followed through, and basically disappeared into thin air after giving me dim hope.

The fences were built, the cattery went up and was finished two weeks later, but we all made it, and the county arrived to inspect an empty property.

All that, and I still made it to Italy for my tour. I couldn't give them the satisfaction.

A Toucan sounds pretty good to me now!

As a property owner, You have lots of power even if it breaks zoning( pay taxes accordingly)...because YOU OWN IT, NOT them or anybody else and to enforcement is a tough thing. Your paying taxes for control!!!!!

You have the right to develop a property the way You see fit. That is the right of ownership. IF you can't, then what's the sense of owning - when others dictate, let them buy it for the right of rules or development.

You own it not the city, Annex yourself and have no city services, make your property your own city or Int'l Territtory The laws of that country will apply!! that will throw them! You have to have their flag flying - Make it your own country!

When the federal gov't moves in a bdlg that floor will become Federal Property and even the surronding...same princlple.

The city often will break zoning to suit themselves...look for examples.

I had a pet shop moved because I needed C-3 then only to find out 2 yrs later that the Chamber of Comerce was operating with others in a bldg not zoned for Comerical and the city wouldn't enforce it, yet I had to move nearby.

And the Health dept said I need permitt for dog food...it was a lie ( because people eat it - not for human consumption, yeah petco and petsmart don't have one)and they threatened this and that. I moved to other nearby cities the big stores never had this permitt.

Botton line surrender all the animals ..over load them, they want a problems give them problems and the added expenses and have the newspapers and tv track there wellfare. ANd then your in a possition to sock it to them!

They'll most likely take it out on them, for sure unfortunately.

Or have another facitity like Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanab Utah take them! They'll have a great life there even if not adopted.

ANd move, who wants to live in that type of town. Donnate the property to some unwanted org. I know someone who the ciy made mad so they made there place a gay strip club! She zinged them good!

In england a guy had a spix macaw it was stolen and he had a permit - the only one ever issued and then got one illgeally, they conficated all his birds and more than 60% died many rare species and he was world reknown macaw exert. The birds died from stress and other..job well done officals. Their heads didn't roll nor did they have to answer.

My current AKita had over 200 Ticks when I got him and it took over 2 weeks to pull all of them, yet these same officals would inspect my pet shop and harass me, I never had a violation and was top notch, still the irony.
I would ask the paper to donate a special section and pictures of adoptables - then enform the city of this progress. Locate Tv can help too, this has been very sucessful in CA. Years ago I offered Animal Controll to bring ANimals on the weekend and they were nasty about it, nowadays you see this everywhere - adoption events! You'll be remedying, an effort to comply. Challenge them to help out.

Well enough said, I hope this helps outs. By the way A toucan is the last thing you need right now! Start lighting your work load, it is just too much right now. Noble efforts but you have to come 1st. There are always others to carry on you fine work.

I remember that gig. It was on a long string of dates throughout the midwest in the summer of '80' I even remember the red striped shirt I had on, because the straps kept on falling off my shoulder as I played, and it was a real pain in the neck as I played guitar.

Those were some of the best days of my life. What a great band I had. I was never to get that lucky again. We were all in the prime of our lives, going through a very emotional experience together. Everything was brand new.

I remember talking to Charlie, my keyboard player onstage during that show, because there were some people he was watching in the first row, 2 guys and a girl, who were doing unmentionable things to each other while watching us play. I couldn't see on account of the spotlight, but he had a good view, and called me over to his side of the stage during a song to tell me. It was pretty weird, but then again we saw lots of strange things happen on the road.

I did get lucky enough to play with Charlie years later on "Brand New World." He played piano on one song, but he also played accordion on another song, which I had never seen him play before. He is now playing accordion with Bruce Springsteen.

Hi Carolyne: I stumbled onto your website during a break at work...I'm SO thrilled to see you're still involved in making music, still as feisty and committed as ever. I lived on your first two records in the late 70's; made my friends all buy them (they loved 'em too)--saw you in a small club in Champaign IL on a hot summer night on the Hold On tour, my girlfriend asked you from the audience, "Who taught you to sing?" and your face just lit up as you said, "My mom." Then we hung out on our bikes in the lot behind the club afterward just to see you come out. . .

Carolyne, you have a prime spot on the list of shoulda-been-huge-stars of the rock world. Don't ever forget there are plenty of us who still love and play your music.

By the way, what you're trying to do for homeless animals is wonderful and important, we will do what we can to help.
