"ACTION PACT" ~ UNRELEASED in U.S
actionpactcd
Originally issued on the Stillsane label, this 1989 European release exemplifies the standard Mas virtues: direct, no-BS songwriting and solid musicianship. Recorded in Springfield, Missouri, Action Pact features Carolyne in front of the fabled Midwestern bar band known as the Morells (when they weren't known as the Skeletons). "So Hard to Be True" was also included in the set for Carolyne Mas Live! An unexpected delight is the vocal on "Sleepwalk" (yes, the old Santo and Johnny song), which Carolyne once spun for me over the phone. "Cruel Little Angel" is pure classic Nashville. And "Dizzy from the I-IV-V" — well, you must hear that for yourself.

Personnel:
Carolyne Mas: Vocals, guitar, piano, glockenspiel
D. Clinton Thompson: Acoustic and electric guitars, lap steel
Joe Terry: Piano, organ
Lou Whitney: Bass
Ron Gremp: Drums
The Columnaires: Background vocals on "Samson and Delilah's Beauty Shop"

Engineered by Lou Whitney
Recorded at Column One Recording, Springfield, MO

"CAROLYNE MAS LIVE!" ~ UNRELEASED in U.S.
livecd
Recorded in Münster, Germany at the Jovel Music Hall, this live set runs over an hour and a half; once again, it's Carolyne with a five-piece band, doing what she does best. As on Hold On and Mas Hysteria, she opens with "Hold On" and "Stay True". "Sittin' in the Dark", from her first LP, has grown to an eighteen-minute extended workout for the band — and a certified crowd-pleaser. There are new songs, too, plus a trip into the James Brown catalogue.

Personnel:
Carolyne Mas: Lead vocals, guitar
Steve Cochran: Lead guitar, vocals
John Abbey: Bass
Phil Cimino: Drums
John Scarpulla: Saxophone
Randy Watson: Keyboards

Produced, mixed and engineered by Clive Gray

"REASON STREET" ~ UNRELEASED in U.S.
reasonstreetcd
Back into the studio for this 1993 release, Carolyne is maybe a little quieter here and there, but no less willing to be heard, and her writing is as sharp as ever. The late-night mysteries of "Driving on the Radio" screech to a halt in the light of day in "King of the U-Turn". "Lovers from the Start" is a lovely Beatlesque ballad, which is not necessarily why John Lennon's "Cry Baby Cry" fits so well into this set. Four of these tracks appeared previously on Carolyne Mas Live! The title? Well, Carolyne says in the liner notes, "I believe in the triumph of hope over experience, faith over reason." Reason Street, therefore, first and foremost, is a road to somewhere.

Personnel:
Carolyne Mas: Lead and background vocals, harmonica, 12-string guitar
Charlton Pettus: Guitars, keyboards, bass, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, vibes, background vocals
Milton Sutton: Drums, all percussion including bottles, vibes
Additional musicians:
Karsten Günther: Accordion, "Vulgar Boatman" vocals
Clive Gray: Mandolin

"BEYOND MERCURY" - CD

beyondmercurycdThis is my first career-spanning retrospective: 17 tracks from 1979 through 2001, half of them never-before-heard. This CD includes tracks from my five studio albums, plus many newer, previously-unreleased album cuts, as well as demos done on the 16 track home studio of friend and collaborator, Mark Johnson. I then worked with AHA Studios in Nashville to master all of these tracks onto one CD. The photos are all personal ones, and there is a complete list of credits inside. The cover was painted by me when I ran out of ideas for a cover. When my father died in 2002, I decided to dedicate this CD to him, and I added as the last track, a song sung by him and recorded more than 50 years ago, named "Foggy, Foggy Dew." He is accompanied by my Aunt, who now has Alzheimer's, on the piano. The first pressing of "BEYOND MERCURY" was made in November of 2003, and it was the first release for "SAVAVGE JULIET RECORDS." The name "SAVAGE jULIET" came from the label on the inside of a overcoat given to me by a fan from Springfield, MO. It had been his grandmother's. Once the name for a long-age taylor, it sounded to me like a great name for a label of a different sort! So, 15 years later...well, the rest is history. Thank you Gene Shipman, for the coat, wherever you are!

This CD is currently out of print.

"BRAND NEW WORLD" - CD

brandnew2Produced by the late and great Steve Burgh, and released September 16, 2005, this CD contains the studio versions of the demos of "Little by Little," and "Be Your Girl" which appear on "Beyond Mercury," as well as the original arrangement for "When You're Near," which was recorded in 1993's "Reason Street," in more of an "acoustic" style. There is actually a third arrangement of this song recorded as a demo in 1985, but it was unfortunately lost over the years. I do have an obscure live accourtic version #3 from "The Speak Easy" in NYC, 1985, with congas (!) and David Landau ("Carolyne Mas," "Hold On") on lead guitar. I think "When You're Near" is one of the songs I'm not done with yet! It was written at the end of 1981, for a boy named Locke Wallace, who was the most handsome guy I had ever seen.

I have copies of this CD for sale on eBay where I will personally autograph them for you.
